Strangely Quiet Offseason for the Yankees

Anyone who has followed baseball in the last twenty years knows that, almost always, the Yankees end up being one of the biggest spenders every offseason.  Every summer, it seems like it could be guaranteed that every big name in free agency gets linked to the Yankees at some time during the offseason. However, this offseason has been quite strange for the Yanks. Aside from adding a few pitchers via trade, the Yankees really haven’t made any big moves, especially in terms of free agent signings.

The only real notable signing the Yanks made this offseason was for Chicago Cubs young infielder Starlin Castro, who has many Yankees fans excited. Castro is a great fielder and versatile at the plate, with a good combination of speed, power, and contact. Castro hit .270 with the Cubs last season, adding 11 Home Runs and 59 RBIs. He will be an exciting player to watch play in Pinstripes and I look forward to his development with the team.

Best Bullpen in Major League History?

Arolids Chapman Yankees Fan Gregory Hold

Source: ESPN

When I found out that the Yankees made a move to obtain Aroldis Chapman from the Reds, I was in shock. Yea, the Yanks are known for making some pretty outrageous moves, but to me, this one was on another level. However, in a span of only about a minute, I went from being in shock because of the surprising nature of the trade; to being in shock from thinking about how good the Yankees bullpen is going to be next season.

Before Chapman, the Yankees already had the best setup/closer duo in baseball with Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. With Chapman, they add someone just as unhittable, and someone who batters hate to face just as much. I’m so excited to see how the Yankees use this three-headed monster in the upcoming season and how they stack up to the best bullpens of all time.

By the way, Chapman has the Major League Baseball record for fastest recorded pitch at 105 MPH. That’s something to get excited about.

Bernie Williams Can Jam!

Bernie Williams is one of my all-time favorite Yankees. The way he played the game, and went about his business, was the epitome of class. Some of my favorite Yankees teams were in the early 2000s, when Bernie was in his prime. I know that the Yankees get a lot of hate across the country, but I think it’s safe to say that no one can hate this guy.

However, what a lot of people don’t know is that Bernie Williams has turned into quite the accomplished musician! Williams is a classically trained guitarist who plays and composes jazz, classical, and Latin inspired music. I got the opportunity to hear him play live a few years back and I was quite surprised at how enjoyable it was! I also recently learned that he was nominated for a Latin Grammy. I urge everyone to give him a listen.

Watch Bernie playing one of my favorite songs below:
