I mentioned in an earlier post that I’m excited for Starlin Castro’s arrival to New York, and so far he’s certainly lived up to expectations. Throughout the team’s first five games, Castro hit at a .450 clip, while leading the team with 8 RBI’s. He is also tied for the team lead with 2 home runs. His stats don’t even tell the whole story. Watching him play throughout the first week of the season showed me what he has a real passion for the game, and that’s really all you can ask for from a member of your team.

Gregory Hold Yankees Starlin Castro

Starlin Castro

It will be interesting to see where the Yankees decide to settle him into the lineup. He batted 8th in the team’s first 3 games. He jumped up to the 3 spot in game number four before being pushed back to batting 7th in the fifth game of the season. If he continues to bat the way he is it wouldn’t surprise me to see him permanently at the beginning of the lineup, but with all the big bats the Yankees have, it is hard situation to manage.

Anyone who has followed baseball in the last twenty years knows that, almost always, the Yankees end up being one of the biggest spenders every offseason.  Every summer, it seems like it could be guaranteed that every big name in free agency gets linked to the Yankees at some time during the offseason. However, this offseason has been quite strange for the Yanks. Aside from adding a few pitchers via trade, the Yankees really haven’t made any big moves, especially in terms of free agent signings.

The only real notable signing the Yanks made this offseason was for Chicago Cubs young infielder Starlin Castro, who has many Yankees fans excited. Castro is a great fielder and versatile at the plate, with a good combination of speed, power, and contact. Castro hit .270 with the Cubs last season, adding 11 Home Runs and 59 RBIs. He will be an exciting player to watch play in Pinstripes and I look forward to his development with the team.

The Yankees have been disappointing the past 3 seasons. They missed the playoffs for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2014, which hasn’t happened since 1994, and this past season they lost to the Astros in the AL Wild Card game. However, I think 2016 will be a turnaround year for the Yankees. In my opinion, the Yankees have two keys to success for the upcoming season: they have reliable starting pitching and this could be a big year for Mark Teixeira.

Even though the Yanks will have one of the best bullpens in the league next season, I think a key to their success will be their starting pitching. The less they have to rely on their bullpen, the better they will be.

As for Teixeira, he’s been less than stellar the past couple seasons, and needs to come out and show the Yankees and their fans why he’s being paid over 22.5 million dollars. If Teixeira can have a 40 HR, 120 RBI Season, I think the Yankees will win the AL East with ease.

I’ve been to many Yankee games and sat in many different sections. I’ve been around the ballpark enough to be able to say with confidence that the best seat in the house is in the bleachers.

While obviously not the best view of the action, the bleachers provide one heck of an atmosphere for fans. Whether it’s the chant of the players’ names before the first pitch or the booing of a fan wearing opposing colors, there is always some form of entertainment going on other than the game.

In addition to the atmosphere, it’s a lot of fun to get out there a couple hours before the game and try to snag home run balls during batting practice. I caught my first ball off a Derek Jeter batting practice home run back in ’97, and it’s a moment I will never forget.

If you’ve never done it before, I strongly suggest giving the bleachers a shot during your next visit to Yankee Stadium.
